The presence of steel and concrete seem to be also pulling agents for men seesking outdoor unattached spontaneous sex, the old rice factories both downtown Kingston now occupied by vendors and squatters and in Spanish Town now turned into the Jamaica Urban Transit Company, JUTC’s bus terminus are two such prime examples of this where my own experiences back in their hay day had me wondering why naturally effeminate men or men who could not “man it up” would not be in those spaces but instead gangsters as it were and former prison buddies would meet or seek pleasure from other strangers while pretending to use the unoccupied spots to pretend to defecate only to make the signs of interest then on to getting that nut (ejaculate) as my African American friends would say, in reading this I know some folks may think I am writing about France or Amsterdam’s red light district’s but we too have our spots though they are fast disappearing due to development as in the case of downtown West Kingston sites now gone, from the stand pipe nearing Darling Street where men would bathe openly nude attracting all kinds of same gender loving men from every strata of society some who would literally park their cars watch with the occasional masturbator or exhibitionist who would take the risk to openly show his erect member for show and release. Or even more darker dangerous spaces now turned the bus park on Harbour Streets nearing the old cold storage warehouse now chained and locked with a police post embedded to its western side. Another spot lost only was so in 2012 when the section immediately beside the water commission yard which was popular for known gangsters is now turned into a sewage plant as is being built as I type this.
Apart from the loss of space due to urbanization and the sharp increase in homeless populations chief among them young MSM/Transgender youth who instead in some instances practice a different kind of sexual favour exchange i.e. commercial sex which has chased way the hunting type as described above. Clashes between the groups has exposed hiding spots, and mistakes some serious ones at times by new comers especially to the cruising world has also led to scrutiny and resistance from the public once suspected and one such mistake is what led me to generate this entry.
Downtown was the scene of some chaos Tuesday March 11, 2014 around 4pm after what is said to be an experienced cruiser slipping up while on the prowl he apparently mistook his target as being interested but apparently it turned out that the party was already engaged intuitively with another man and was directing his energies there, the mistaken cruiser sharpened his pursuit of his prey but was spotted by a passer-by who alerted some other persons to the suspicious activity; the man however by virtue of this masculine demeanour was not attacked as expected but persons who eventually gathered at the entrance of the wooded area were in no mood for unclear explanations, the matter was said to have continued for a good twenty minutes while the intended prey and other party left via the opposite entrance on a side street which was made mention of by the small crowd gathered, the cruiser eventually made good his “escape” but is very weary of that area and has said in a subsequent interview of his error.
Several other men who use the spot too came in for criticisms though by the cruiser as he says they put the area in jeopardy by their own risky tactics barring error as in his case. It was last year too that some distance at another spot a handcart man was said to have been caught in a compromising position with another man, the unconfirmed report suggested that the man ran away with the other party and his cart was destroyed by four men who had arrived on the scene after being alerted to the activity.
New Kingston has its fair set of challenges as hinted to before wherein the increase in the numbers of homeless MSM/Trans persons versus cruisers who are looking for a good time when taking into account there are waves and time schedules for cruisers as well which sometimes clash with the times the homeless MSM come out which in turn has turned off many would be cruisers or they find other limited safe spaces which creates another problem as overcrowding takes place, cruisers in essence do not like when their “spot” is taken over or traversed too often by others hence the challenges and literal fights sometimes in public.
Since the downtown incident the space has been bushed and vendors actually have been placed or sent there to sell their wares as well which has some worried as they are now fearing another space is about to or if not gone forever. With the commercialization outward displays of affection seems imminent as persons seek to express themselves in my humble opinion, although subtle hints are not the same as expressed seeking of sexual favours in a discreet yet open space, the old British adage the closer you are to danger the further you are from harm. Female commercial sex workers used to say or refer to a similar construct in their line of work wherein persons would meet clients in the car park or have sex in the car right before or under the noses of guards etc.
Elsewhere on the island there are unconfirmed reports as well of major geographical changes to spots such as those in St James or Hanover.
Safe hunting if you do so or encourage friends who do to be vigilant please luckily the more experienced folks know how to dodge incoming matters, Dwayne Jones was not so lucky.
Peace and tolerance
