JAMAICA'S newest political party, the New Nation Coalition (NNC) headed by children’s advocate Betty Ann Blaine was launched earlier today.The Coalition consisting of 10 founding members, is promising tax reformation, urban housing, rural land reform and a foundation built on strong Christian principles among some of its objectives.
Additionally, the fourth political party has also thrown its weight behind the Contractor General Greg Christie calling for the expansion of his powers as well as supporting the work of the centre for Leadership and Governance at the University of the West Indies.
“We intend to examine and promote those key areas of constitutional and legislative reform that will strengthen transparency and accountability and put an end to corruption in political and public life for good,” Blaine said
Speaking at the launch at the Wyndham Hotel in New Kingston, she said that after 48 years of independence Jamaica is moving backwards.
Blaine is an Observer columnist and former talk show host.
Let us not forget Miss Blaine's utterances towards her perceptions of the "homosexual lobby" as she puts it on her former talk show. She is known to have very strong opposing views towards any moves to discuss tolerance or such matters and resorts to biblical literalism and pronouncements to reinforce her anti gay stance.
She is a strong supporter of children's rights but sadly she too has fallen into the ring of those who misconstrue homosexual paedophilia with consensual adult homosexual activity time and time again. The last major public case of an alleged paedophile in a place of safety last year was one such case where she commented that homosexuals need to be removed from such positions.
Remember or review her writings in the press, this excerpt from a piece comes to mind, she wrote in the Observer in 2007:
"I wish to put our country on the alert to the fact that this is the start of what I believe is a well-planned and orchestrated agenda against a country that one American writer described as "the most homophobic place on earth''.

First of all, the global homosexual lobby must be told unequivocally and unapologetically that Jamaica is not a homophobic country - we are a Christian country. The fact that many Jamaicans are bad Christians is a completely different matter altogether. For Jamaicans, the issue of homosexuality is a deeply cultural and spiritual matter. In the eyes of Jamaicans, to say that homosexuality is right, is to say that God is wrong, and that will never happen.
Homosexuality is not merely an issue of a different value system, or issues of "preference" or "choice". It is an issue that strikes at the very core of a belief system that is rooted in the Bible, and one that Jamaicans have valued since time immemorial, and a belief system that defines and calibrates who we are.
Culturally, the Jamaican society is not one in which you will see public displays of sex as one might see in other countries. You hardly see it with heterosexuals, and Jamaicans don't expect to see it with homosexuals. As far as many Jamaicans are concerned, sex and sexual preferences are private matters that are best confined to people's bedrooms, and should not be something for public display or public consumption.
My own position on homosexuality is very simple and straightforward. My heart is full of love for all of God's children, including those who have chosen a homosexual lifestyle, but I can't condone the behaviour, precisely because as a Christian, I find it goes against God's words and teachings - from the Creation story through to the story of Sodom and Gomorrah and the Levitical passages in the Old Testament - to the books of the New Testament.
One of the most effective strategies of the homosexual lobby (with the help of its local agents) is to force you into a corner by saying that if you dislike the behaviour you automatically dislike the person. That's a trick that hasn't worked with me. Some of the nicest, kindest, brightest and most creative people I know are homosexuals, and some of the meanest and most obnoxious human beings I know are heterosexuals, and vice versa. The issue is sin, not sexual orientation, and all of us, both gays and "straights" are guilty in the eyes of God even when we don't even know it. The wonderful thing is that God's grace is sufficient for all of us.
The point of concern, however, is the aggressive, offensive posture of the homosexual lobby with its two-fold agenda of recruitment and acceptance at any cost - and that includes blacklisting an entire country if that country refuses to fall into line. The agenda is to influence national policies, as we see happening in other parts of the world, and every single trick is being pulled out of the bag, including convoluting the issues of "diversity'', "human rights", "science and evolution" - you name it. My prediction is that very soon the issue of foreign aid is going to be tied to the issue of "diversity'' and "human rights" (which really now means homosexuality), and as a poor, dependent country we had better sit up and pay attention."

Now on a Christian agenda naming themselves "God's politicians" she has decided to launch a party, sooner or later the homosexual issue is going to come up and maybe used as the ruling Jamaica Labour Party has done as a political football to improve ratings and attract followers. The mantra for the launch as she explained in a radio interview that the party major move is to remove corruption. She says she wants no "Microwave politicians" in the party.

Clearly to me there is a hidden theocratic agenda here as well and those who do not fit the bill have to move of course this is based on her spoken and written positions all backed with so called christian principles.
Let us watch this although our political history has shown that third parties do not do so well.
They intend to do a listening tour of communities she says and a think tank of scholars to look at critical areas of reform they will expand on in the future.

She is the founder of Hear The Children's Cry (2002) and proposed the Ananda Alert system following the horrible murder of a young girl Ananda Dean. The disturbing amount of missing children and the moves to correct that she has my support however the anti gay stance is another matter all together.

She looks kind of mean (from the picture). I don't expect her new party will be successful, given the electoral system in Jamaica. She does say "As far as many Jamaicans are concerned, sex and sexual preferences are private matters that are best confined to people's bedrooms." If that is true, the state has no business dictating what goes on in people's bedrooms between consenting adults. How much is Jamaica really prepared to sacrifice just to hold on to its buggery laws? Not much, I would guess.
