It's not even the end of Child's Month yet another young one has been named as a The Clarendon Police are investigating an alleged case of buggery against a seven year old boy in the community of Cemetery Road in Denbigh. The incident reportedly occurred on last Wednesday. It was only recently I did a post entitled:

Two brothers from the community accused of committing the act were attacked by a mob, chopped and stabbed.They were rescued by the police and taken to hospital.

Residents protested on Friday about the alleged attack on the child and the arrest of a member of the community who was involved in the mobbing.

Operations Officer for Clarendon, Superintendent Carol McKenzie, says one of the brothers who is considered a suspect remains hospitalised under police guard.His brother was treated and released.

Superintendent McKenzie says investigators are awaiting the medical report on the child.A Hiace bus was said to be burnt by an invading mob as well alleged threats to family to leave the community.

The outrage from the public is justified if the allegations prove to true, it the conflation however of paedophila with same sex that is the problem, they don't even bother to check Google. Persons are claiming justified homophobia in a sense as in changing the buggery law with give  cart blanche to men to have access to little boys. 

Pedophilia or paedophilia is a psychiatric disorder in which an adult or older adolescent experiences a primary or exclusive sexual attraction to prepubescent children. Although girls typically begin the process of puberty at age 10 or 11, and boys at age 11 or 12,criteria for pedophilia extend the cut-off point for prepubescence to age 13.[1] A person who is diagnosed with pedophilia must be at least 16 years old, and at least five years older than the prepubescent child, for the attraction to be diagnosed as pedophilia.

Pedophilia is termed pedophilic disorder in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5), and the manual defines it as a paraphilia involving intense and recurrent sexual urges towards and fantasies about prepubescent children that have either been acted upon or which cause the person with the attraction distress or interpersonal difficulty.[1] The International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) defines it as a sexual preference for children of prepubertal or early pubertal age.

In popular usage, the word pedophilia is often applied to any sexual interest in children or the act of child sexual abuse. This use conflates the sexual attraction to prepubescent children with the act of child sexual abuse, and fails to distinguish between attraction to prepubescent and pubescent or post-pubescent minors. Researchers recommend that these imprecise uses be avoided because although people who commit child sexual abuse sometimes exhibit the disorder, child sexual abuse offenders are not pedophiles unless they have a primary or exclusive sexual interest in prepubescent children, and the literature indicates the existence of pedophiles who do not molest children.

Pedophilia was first formally recognized and named in the late 19th century. A significant amount of research in the area has taken place since the 1980s. Although mostly documented in men, there are also women who exhibit the disorder, and researchers assume available estimates underrepresent the true number of female pedophiles. The cure for pedophilia has been developed, but there are therapies that can reduce the incidence of a person committing child sexual abuse. The exact causes of pedophilia have not been conclusively established.Some studies of pedophilia in child sex offenders have correlated it with various neurological abnormalities and psychological pathologies. In the United States, following Kansas v. Hendricks, sex offenders who are diagnosed with certain mental disorders, particularly pedophilia, can be subject to indefinite civil commitment.

Nicholas Groth is a pioneer in the scientific study of sexual offenders against women and children, who has treated over 3000 child molesters over the course of two decades. A former director of the Sex Offender Program at the Connecticut Department of Corrections, Groth is the author of Men Who Rape: Psychology of the Offender, a work widely regarded as a classic textbook on the psychology of sexual violence.

He concurred in a recent debate on homosexuality vs paedophilia that Homosexuality and homosexual pedophilia are not synonymous. In fact, it may be that these two orientations are mutually exclusive, the reason being that the homosexual male is sexually attracted to masculine qualities whereas the heterosexual male is sexually attracted to feminine characteristics, and the sexually immature child’s qualities are more feminine than masculine. . . . The child offender who is attracted to and engaged in adult sexual relationships is heterosexual. It appears, therefore, that the adult heterosexual male constitutes a greater sexual risk to underage children than does the adult homosexual male.

The general belief in the stereotype that "Homosexuals are dangerous as teachers or youth leaders because they try to get sexually involved with children" or that "Homosexuals try to play sexually with children if they cannot get an adult partner." is very real in our scenario.

Anthropologist (yet again) conflates male homosexuality with predatory paedophilia

 from a previous Gleaner story

Anthropologist Dr Herbert Gayle has once again has caused some upset of sorts out there by making generalized comments on sensitive matters; however in this go round was not as the one he just ended up in recently on violence and power differentials between men and women and violence as he for all intents and purposes resorted to victim blaming (women are the ones who push men to violence narrative). I like some others who watched the news last evening were wondering if the man we saw speaking at Rotary Club meeting and who has worked on street boys and violence, JFLAG and the University of The West Indies and a host of other groups, NGOs and civil society if he was out of his mind in some sense; Gayle seemed quite comfortable by way of his cadence of speech and gesticulation in the delivery at the podium maybe without realizing what he was perpetuating; he was speaking about street boys and men who seem to have a cleek mentality and glorify violence up in later years as a stripe of sorts, the newscast’s report did not show any explanation as well as to business of the group mentality for survival, sex as a means of income sometimes most unwillingly versus deliberate abuse by more monied and powered men. A request for a transcript has not been responded to as at the preparation of this post.

Gayle also suggested that even successful men in particular who hail from a poorer and abusive backgrounds and who have physical evidence of abuse by way of beatings and so on they too seem to respond with braggadociousness that they are bolder persons now due to the treatment and what they learnt in youthful years, they seem to see some justification for the abuse so they accept it. One would have expected that as one become more exposed to issues in a real sense that newfound informed position would influence anyone to avoid generalisations especially predicated on such a radioactive conflation of predatory paedophile intent. Dr Gayle whether inadvertently or deliberately given the audience he was in front of just threw out the line(s) he uttered and makes me wonder sadly why he would make those statements at a function and then leave them simply hanging knowing how deeply homophobic we are and can get when it suits some persons. Was he throwing stones without realising the broader implications of this nationally?

This is not the first time Dr Gayle has done this gay-baiting of sorts framed as predatory or exploitative homosexuality despite as mentioned above his work he did with JFLAG, even while he hosted an afternoon show on the University of the West Indies, UWI ‘s Newstalk 93FM he would put out the one liners indicated the narrative without unpacking some of the other attendant pieces to the puzzle, such as experimentation, substitutional sex, gay for pay phenomenon versus genuine male inappropriate sexual abuse. He would reel off all kinds of statistics and so on and on the face of them they sound plausible but without the benefit of the listeners and some basic unpacking suppositions and or speculations become the end product unfortunately; when academics are supposed to encourage the analysis of facts driven by strong empirical data for those of us who are not so book bright. Make no mistake one is not denying that there are persons out there sometimes wrapped in sheep clothing who abuse others and use their power by force or not to get psychologically or financial weak or desperate persons into non consensual scenarios or going as far as rape but for an anthropologist to engage in generalizations of such a sensitive nature plays right into the hands of a homophobe who use such thinking to set themselves in their ways whilst putting up a permanent wall of rejection, hate, ignorance and feeling justified in supporting to the point of violence against LGBT persons predicated on stereotypes, misnomers and sheer ignorance. This is not the kind of thinking and subtle encouragement that should be coming from an academic.

Anti gay groups and individuals to include fanatical Christians often use this long standing paedophile/homosexual conflation to near perfection in whipping up opposition to any sensible processing of human sexuality and by extension debates on buggery law reform; the subtext of the narrative is that the law must remain as boys will be abused and men will have a free hand to do so which is NOT true. They like Dr Gayle’s wide broad brush simply pack all gay men as paedophiles without looking at or recognizing the all important matters of consent as adults and or sexual orientation. There is sometimes a comparison to what occurs with teenage girls and older men where the teens are merely seen as future or young fresh sex objects for use and is justified in song by popular dancehall acts (the buss breast targeting of girls) who maintain their popularity by glorifying same and presenting a virile hypermasculine man image to project strength. All the more reason why Dr Gayle ought to have tread a little more carefully as the sequence of disturbing cases and once guarded secrets of abuse of women and girls indeed boys coupled with the now exposed rotted under belly of some church denominations in as far as church or clerical sex abuse once swept under the rug. Problem is some much has been swept under that rug that it is two inches away from the ceiling. The comparative response to the latest ugly salvo pales in comparison to the stridency these often misguided groups show to conflated homosexual matters, where are the Half Way Tree protests condemning this?

Dr Gayle and other such academics, two particular misguided sociologists comes to mind one being the sister to former Member of Parliament Damian Crawford, georgette Crawford and the ever homophobic Dr Orville Higgins seem to thrive of hitting back at LGBT advocacy. The former is good at linking paedophile intent with homosexuality and gets away with it ever so often on Nationwide radio despite that stations generalised tolerant tone while the latter Higgins continues to use the perceived label by Time magazine which was a question not a statement of fact that asked “Is Jamaica is the most homophobic place on earth?” he too effortlessly sometime joins male homosexuality with predatory intent. All this happening while the pious are being rapidly being exposed to be something else. It was only yesterday in a previous post on a 6 year old Vybz Kartel antigay song that has been revived of sorts this same paedophile conflation, a conflation some if us for years have been trying to defeat while bringing some sense into the mix.

The Diagnostic Statistical Manual, DSM 5 which denotes the various sexual disorders especially for Psychologists and indeed others is quite clear as to the differences between a paedophile and a homosexual although we also know that the gender of the underaged victim is of no consequence in a sense. Homosexuality is not seen as a disorder from as far back 1973 but paedophilia is seen as a sometimes treatable disorder either by psycho sexual interventions over time backed up by pharmacological courses as well with strong drugs to reduce the libido of such paedophiles. Once an adult finds children sexually attractive or are aroused by kids of whatever gender we are no longer dealing with sexual orientation but something totally different. Traditional media reporting over the years have not helped either as those reports have helped to cement the homo-paedophile construct when the narrative does not seek to give some basic facts but more sensationalism in order to sell papers or in these days generate clicks and web traffic.

Indeed the power differentials in such same gender unions from the point of adolescents can be problematic for as hinted to above for survival some may enter into a gay for pay mode; the monied or privileged man ends up preying on the weaker marginalised male inadvertently I imagine and the outcomes of that have been bourn out in the occasional incident and sometimes murder. The media again sensationalise the story sometimes playing into the hands of the public and rests the motives often times of crimes of passion or justified self defence due to a perceived sodomatical attack (an old term used in courts back in the seventies and eighties). Unfortunately the missing unpacking of such matters by a case by case basis have also fed into the predatory intent conflation while leaving out the power struggle.

It is bad enough that we are up against a homophobic public with deeply entrenched negative subtexts lasting decades which makes it normative and usually more pronounced at the lower socio economic spectrum but to be repeatedly confronted by academics who ought to know better is another matter entirely.

Game shop operator caught performing sex act on boy

Yet again we hear of another game shop operator involved allegedly in inappropriate activity with young patrons of their shops and end up getting caught and rightfully so. Sadly cases as this latest one helps to conflate the issues of male homosexuality versus a paedophile as many say gay men are simply predatory.

A paedophile is someone who has some sort of sexual attraction to minors despite the gender of the intended victim and is seen as deviant behaviour by the Diagnostic Statistical Manual, DSM, the guide for psychologists on such matters.

Some of the early comments thus far are pointing to the above mentioned conflation and is cause for concern as it leaves a misconception of the issues and can be problematic for public LGBT advocacy. It is really heartbreaking when stories like this come to hand.

The Star reported:

A St Andrew businessman, who was caught on tape performing a disturbing sexual act on a little boy, has been arrested and charged with gross indecency.

The man, who operates a game shop, was charged by detectives from the Centre for the Investigation of Sexual Offences and Child Abuse (CISOCA), after a report was made to the Stony Hill police.

He was captured on video performing the disturbing act on the little boy in his house from which he operates a game shop.

In a 7:25-seconds amateur footage of the incident, which was captured through a keyhole, the accused can be seen stroking the child, who he placed in his lap to play a video game.

The child, believed to be about seven years old, is seeing clutching the handset and playing video games as he was held by the accused who seemingly carried out the act.

Having apparently enjoyed himself, the accused released the child from his lap, wiped off his member, and then stood and pulled up his pants.

A senior officer at the Stony Hill police told THE STAR that the pervert is to face the Kingston and St. Andrew Parish Court on December 20.

Hope proper evidence can be brought to bear and the relevant judgement made by the bench.

WPA Position Statement on Gender Identity and Same-Sex Orientation, Attraction, and Behaviours

Background

Recent controversies in many countries suggest a need for clarity on same-sex orientation, attraction, and behaviour (formerly referred to as homosexuality).

Along with other international organisations, World Psychiatric Association (WPA) considers sexual orientation to be innate and determined by biological, psychological, developmental, and social factors.

Over 50 years ago, Kinsey et al (1948) documented a diversity of sexual behaviours among people. Surprisingly for the time, he described that for over 10% of individuals this included same-sex sexual behaviours. Subsequent population research has demonstrated approximately 4% of people identify with a same-sex sexual orientation (e.g., gay, lesbian, and bisexual orientations). Another 0.5% identify with a gender identity other than the gender assigned at birth (e.g., transgender) (Gates 2011). Globally, this equates to over 250 million individuals.

Psychiatrists have a social responsibility to advocate for a reduction in social inequalities for all individuals, including inequalities related to gender identity and sexual orientation.

Despite an unfortunate history of perpetuating stigma and discrimination, it has been decades since modern medicine abandoned pathologising same-sex orientation and behaviour (APA 1980) The World Health Organization (WHO) accepts same-sex orientation as a normal variant of human sexuality (WHO 1992). The United Nations Human Rights Council (2012) values Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) rights. In two major diagnostic and classification systems (International Classification of Diseases (ICD-10) and DSM-5), same sex sexual orientation, attraction, and behaviour and gender identity are not seen as pathologies (WHO 1993, APA 2013).

There is considerable research evidence to suggest that sexual behaviours and sexual fluidity depend upon a number of factors (Ventriglio et al 2016). Furthermore, it has been shown conclusively that LGBT individuals show higher than expected rates of psychiatric disorders (Levounis et al 2012, Kalra et al 2015), and once their rights and equality are recognised these rates start to drop (Gonzales 2014, Hatzenbuehler et al 2009, 2012, Padula et al 2015)

People with diverse sexual orientations and gender identities may have grounds for exploring therapeutic options to help them live more comfortably, reduce distress, cope with structural discrimination, and develop a greater degree of acceptance of their sexual orientation or gender identity. Such principles apply to any individual who experiences distress relating to an aspect of their identity, including heterosexual individuals.

WPA believes strongly in evidence-based treatment. There is no sound scientific evidence that innate sexual orientation can be changed. Furthermore, so-called treatments of homosexuality can create a setting in which prejudice and discrimination flourish, and they can be potentially harmful (Rao and Jacob 2012). The provision of any intervention purporting to “treat” something that is not a disorder is wholly unethical.

Action

1. The World Psychiatric Association (WPA) holds the view that lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals are and should be regarded as valued members of society, who have exactly the same rights and responsibilities as all other citizens. This includes equal access to healthcare and the rights and responsibilities that go along with living in a civilised society.

2. WPA recognises the universality of same-sex expression, across cultures. It holds the position that a same-sex sexual orientation per se does not imply objective psychological dysfunction or impairment in judgement, stability, or vocational capabilities.

3. WPA considers same-sex attraction, orientation, and behaviour as normal variants of human sexuality. It recognises the multi-factorial causation of human sexuality, orientation, behaviour, and lifestyle. It acknowledges the lack of scientific efficacy of treatments that attempt to change sexual orientation and highlights the harm and adverse effects of such “therapies”.

4. WPA acknowledges the social stigma and consequent discrimination of people with same-sex sexual orientation and transgender gender identity. It recognises that the difficulties they face are a significant cause of their distress and calls for the provision of adequate mental health support.

5. WPA supports the need to de-criminalise same–sex sexual orientation and behaviour and transgender gender identity, and to recognise LGBT rights to include human, civil, and political rights. It also supports anti-bullying legislation; anti-discrimination student, employment, and housing laws; immigration equality; equal age of consent laws; and hate crime laws providing enhanced criminal penalties for prejudice-motivated violence against LGBT people.

6) WPA emphasises the need for research on and the development of evidence-based medical and social interventions that support the mental health of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals

'Tell Me Pastor' & reparative therapy again .......

Happy New Year again folks and the GJW begins with a Pastor Aaron Dumas entry in the long line of many previously wherein he keeps pushing the reparative therapy line; despite being a psychologist he goes against the DSM 5 guidelines when it comes to homosexuality.

I still also think some of the letter in the column of his are edited so much so as to get readers.

Here is a recent letter and response:

Dear Pastor,

I am a frequent reader of your column and I must say keep up the good work. I am a 20-year-old male living with my grandparents until I've finished my studies. I am pursing a degree in primary education. I am not a Christian. However, I was brought up in an Adventist household. Growing up in my community, I would say those were the good old days. I used to visit my neighbours, where I was surrounded by younger and older children and those of the same age group as I am.

At this particular house lived a sibling family of about five children, where I visited quiet often and participated in sexual intercourse. Incest was practised among these teenagers as they were three girls and two boys. Furthermore, oral and anal sex between both brothers, including myself at times, was pratised.

Pastor, that was when I were about eight years of age and it bothers me. Even other teenage boys and male cousins used to visit this household for sex. I was recently involved with a male, which I really regret. I want to stop, and I am planning on getting baptised, but I don't wish to seek repentance until I am over this unclean life. Please give me your advice. Fathers were not present in this home and the absence of the mother was because of her mental issues.

Dear Troubled,

I hope that you will not seek to be baptised until you believe that you have experienced victory over your homosexual practices or way of life. I am in no way condemning you. Evidently, when you were young and visiting your neighbours, you engaged in sex with both male and female. At that time, however, the activities that you had with the boys did not bother you as much as the sex you had with this grown man. You must know why you are so troubled now. Could it be that this man is much older than you, or is it that you feel that you know better?

I wish to suggest that you end the relationship with this man and all the males with whom you have had sexual relations and that you seek professional help. I know that there are folks who are eager to condemn me because I do not encourage same-sex relations. I am not condemning anybody and I am only trying to respond to you the best way I can. You are not comfortable in what you are doing. Something inside of you is telling you that what you are doing is wrong.

I am sure you have been praying about the matter. Continue to do so. You may wish to discuss this matter with the pastor of your church or with a Christian psychologist. I assure you of my prayer and may the Good Lord lead you.

So this young man it seems was exposed to same gender sex via experimentation yet the proper advise in my eyes is that he should really see if he is gay or not via counseling and not just dismiss the issue via the suggested restorative route.

Judge warns cop who allegedly molested boy to leave witnesses in case

As we draw to the close of Sexual Assault Awareness month a series of cases involving a homo-paedophile construct in the allegation have come to public light. The latest is a case of a policeman who was charged for molesting a boy earlier this year was warned by resident magistrate Judith Pusey to not interfere with witnesses close to the case and stay away as best as possible from the victim. Sadly locally the restraining orders or such types of legal protections are not as strong as other jurisdictions. Charged is Police officer Dalton Leslie who was granted bail of $250,000.00 with surety. 

The Director of Public Prosecution, DPP ruled that the cop be charged after a file was prepared with statements gained from witnesses Leslie is to return to court on July 22, 2015.

The matter was said to have occurred in St Mary where the cop came into contact allegedly with the victim repeatedly and unusual behavioural patterns on the part of the boy aroused suspicions by family members who after engaging the youth he explained his situation, investigations were launched and hence the matter in court.

Sadly anti gay groups seem numb or muted when it comes to these matters even when one of their own in terms of pastors or police or other persons who are in a position of trust sexually abusing persons in their care, reach or charge. The chrry picking is sad and only when it gets really bad as it has in recent weeks where children are murdered then we hear some hiccupped response late in the day.

Such cases once public sadly serve to be used as cannon fodder by said antigay voices mostly from religiosity to resist LGBT advocacy goals for protection and recognition claiming that changes in laws will allow unchecked paedophilia and abuse and that men will target boys as this case hints to. Paedophilia (worth repeating) is the designated disorder not homosexuality as deemed so by the Diagnostic Statistical Manual, DSM the Bible for the psychiatric and psychological communities, also is the corresponding ICD (now in version 10) that defines the differences clearly.

There are various courses that can be employed to address such issues and challenges such as pharmacological interventions to reduce libido and sexual interest in pre-pubescent individuals which is the challenge here, the orientation of the perpetrator or victim is not important as we get caught up in who is who more so than addressing the deviant interest in kids.

Then there is isolation intervention as is practiced in Florida where a sex offenders residency exists and they are monitored via ankle bracelets linked to the global GPRS systems and restriction via court order does not allow said accused to be or go near schools, parks where children socialize or even the victim’s home within a designated number of feet or yards relative to them.

The numbers of abuse cases though is of deep concern only this morning a series of Ananda alerts were read out on radio with 6 girls and 1 boy making the list which suggests something is horribly wrong out there islandwide as it is not restricted to parish capitals or capital city Kingston.

Once again I want to recommend a book that has helped me an untrained layman in this department to understand the mind of offenders albeit it is an overseas publication but the circumstances are very much similar.

I will also draw from excerpts of a previous post on the Ananda Alert and why it is named as such for an unsolved murder case of Ananda Dean some years ago and while in fairness folks like Betty Ann Blaine have spoken out on such matters they get muted or dumb except for the occasional press release and FB posts the outrage is way less but let it be on homosexuality and the fire comes out.

Disturbing Paedophile Case & Conflation of Same Gender Sex with Abuse

Another unfortunate and awful story involving a young boy and a thirty year old man has prompted some to suggest that LGBT rights must not be granted to the lobby as this as happened unfortunately to this youngster is what will result. Moral panic as usual clouds sensible judgement and discussions and then so called Christians unethically use these cases to bolster their anti gay positions.

Firstly here is the Star News version of the story:

A seven-year-old boy was allegedly abducted and brutally sodomised yesterday in the Evan Street area of May Pen, Clarendon, reportedly by a 30-year-old man from the community.

The alleged attacker was later held and severely beaten by members of the community.

The child's mother told THE WEEKEND STAR that the youngster went to a nearby gully to catch fish, when he was tied up, taken to a cave some three miles away and sodomised for hours.

She said after noticing her son was gone for an unusually long period, she went outside and saw a crowd of people coming towards her house with the boy crying uncontrollably. He reportedly gave vivid details and was immediately taken to the May Pen Police Station, then the May Pen Hospital, where he was treated by doctors.

"Parents keep your eyes on your children, don't let them out of your sight for a minute ... it's not only girls it a happen to, them a rape off the young boys them too," she said in an impassioned plea.

Was shocked

An uncle of the traumatised boy, who is a grade-one student at a primary school in the parish, said he was shocked when he saw the crowd coming towards him with his nephew crying.
He said upon being questioned, the child described his assailant. An angry crowd went searching for the suspect, who was then seen with one of his brothers. Both men were beaten mercilessly.

"After the people them go up a him house, him and his brother start run, but the people run them down and beat them badly before the police come rescue them and carry them go hospital," the uncle explained.

Police confirmed that they have received a report of the incident and that the two men have been admitted to hospital as they continue their investigations.

Sadly the worrying trend it seems of children being sexually abused or killed as a recent beheading story of a 14 year old girl shows is indeed worrying but to deliberately attached that to the decriminalization or repeal of buggery as justification to block/deny such moves is downright deceptive as was hinted to in a radio discussion this morning on one of the religious radio stations.

It is well established both in layman's terms as well as the DSM, diagnostic statistical manual and WIKIPEDIA that paedophilia is a sexual attraction of adults to children that is diagnosable and treatable but homosexuality is not a disorder and or 'treatable'

Dear Readers,

AA is a 23-year-old female who writes Lifeline from Mandeville. She has been sexually active since 16 and has not been impressed with guys who have been a part of her life. Mostly, they have cheated on her, and have been more concerned about their own goals, sexually and in life.

Yes, she is cheesed off by men! Recently, AA has been sticking with her girlfriends and has begun to develop close, even sexual feelings, towards one.

She has never thought of herself as bisexual but now wonders if this could be the case. She feels like her friend understands her better than any man ever did, is more caring and beautiful. She asked Lifeline why men are often such rotters. She just doesn't have any feelings towards them anymore.

Lifeline acknowledges that AA's opinion and her impending change in sexual orientation is not new to formerly heterosexual women. As men have forgetten about the old-fashioned niceties with which to treat female. They treat them instead as 'buddies' with sexual benefits can be had.

That old-fashioned standing back and allowing the female to enter a room first, getting up and giving her a seat on the bus, or getting a tired girlfriend a cup of tea and giving her a foot massage, this lost caring skill, making a woman feel cherished and special, is one reason why there are more women looking to other women for solace ... and getting it!

So, if homosexuality is not always inherited, then what kind of influences lead to homosexual desires? Life events from early childhood can manifest later as homosexuality. There may be a one event, but exposure to several such as:

An absent father

A domineering mother

With females, sexual molestation in childhood by a close male relative

Sexual molestation by a same-sex relative

Divorce in a family, which can often lead to sexual problems for both the parents, as well as the children

Lack of a religious home environment

A lifestyle which is friendly towards homosexuality makes it easier to condone homosexuality as a valid choice

Exposure to unconventional sex at home (child viewing untraditional sex )

Group sex

Girls who get involved, sexually, at a young age with adult men

Abuse in a heterosexual relationship

Strong factors in becoming a homosexual include:

Any homosexual experience in childhood, if this is with an adult and especially so if the adult, was the very first experience with the homosexual culture, such as an authority figure like a teacher.

Another factor in favouring a homosexual relationship would be exposure to pornography in childhood.

There are also cultural influences, which can remove inhibitions towards homosexuality:

Pro-homosexual sex education

Socially approved homosexual sub-cultures

Openly homosexual authority figures

Legalisation of homosexuality

Societal acceptance of homosexuality as normal behaviour

Alternatively, there is less homosexual activity among religious groups

Studies show that 67 per cent of boys, whose first sexual experience was with an adult homosexual, continued to engage in homosexual activities as adults. The same with boys whose first sexual experience was with a female. Ninety-five per cent remain heterosexual as adults. The same pattern was reported for females.

Statistics also show that black men are twice as likely to be homosexual as caucasians and four times more likely to be bisexual. This is not genetic but may well be due to the fact that black men preponderantly grow up in broken homes, with no strong male figure or a domineering female figure.

In the USA 62 per cent of Blacks versus 16 per cent of white children, are reared without fathers. These figures are not likely to be better in Jamaica.

Homosexuals do experiment a lot, sexually, and many have been sexually aroused or had sexual relationships with someone of the opposite sex. With these individuals, homosexuality may be a lifestyle choice rather than being genetically predetermined.

Several individuals have had one or two homosexual experiences and never again. Then there are individuals in committed heterosexual relationships with spouses and children, who have walked away from that relationship to move forward with a same-sex lover.

Much in these relationships is about personal choice, made with the background of previous life experiences. The truth is that in any community there are individuals considering changing their sexual orientation, in either direction, from heterosexual, to homosexual or vice-versa.

One fact is undeniable. It is that if a person is heterosexual and conflicted by homosexual attractions, if they stay within a homosexual environment they are likely to indulge. If they don't want to indulge, they should remove themselves from temptation, at least temporarily. Associations are important.

Studies measuring arousal show that when shown sexually specific material, most men were only aroused by one gender, whereas most women exhibited sexual arousal to pictures of both genders, showing that, often, sexual orientation is more gender specific in men than in women. That is, sexual orientation is usually more fluid in females.

One cannot ignore the fact, however, that biology plays its part in sexual orientation. Due to genital problems, some children in the past were raised contrary to their biological identity and were seen to reclaim their biological sexual orientation in adulthood.

Our biological nature, as male or female, does have a strong influence on our ultimate gender identity and sexual orientation.

There is some evidence to show that a relative lack of male sex hormones in the developing feotus can later influence sexual orientation, as low testosterone hormonal levels in the uterus facilitate the development of the female-type brain.

Alternatively, exposure to too-high male sex hormones in the uterus may eventually manifest a more masculine brain in a female as female homosexuality. This may account for some homosexual behaviour.

Where sexual desire and sexual attraction is concerned there is no evidence that conscious choice is a part of the equation for straight or homosexual individuals.

In the end, you like who you like. It is up to an individual to act on the emotion or not. A married man might chose to ignore a sexual attraction to his colleague at work for obvious reasons. As adults, we make our own choices in life, ultimately.

Note also, increased infections with bacterial vaginosis in female homosexuals, Hepatitis, genital herpes simplex and alcohol abuse are increased in all homosexuals, mostly occurring because of the tendency towards multiple partners. A committed single-partner relationship is always best.

It's bad enough the furore around the Professor Bain conflict of interest matter persists and bullying perceptions by the LGBT lobby collectively abounds now some three days after the sensational headline on the Observer online of a male jogger who allegedly suffered a sodomotical attack in the upscale community of Queenshill the fire storm continues with bizarre linkages to the homosexual agenda as it were and lobby bullying, some have gone as far to make threatening phone calls to talkshows on the issue suggesting that homosexual males are out to get every available male anus they can plug in a bid to force the rest of the nation to accept our supposed "nasty lifestyle" as if it is only anal penetration that defines us. This is aided and abetted by all too eager religious voices one of whom spoke on Newstalk 93FM earlier on Freshstart Reverend Peter Espeut while pretending to be tolerant claimed that the call for privacy and consent in anal sex between adults cannot be claimed as a human right and that a woman has no right to decide to kill a foetus despite the fact though it is not of her body per say but in it it is murder.

Talk about narcissistic complexes, other persons are asking why has JFLAG been so quiet and adding insult to injury its chief Programs Officer chooses to seemingly ignore the matter and wrote an article about teachers instead. Unbelievable, I can understand why the jogger, didn't report it, can you image how embarrassing that would be for him, to advised police offices that he was raped.
