Crime of passion linked to August Town shooting, transvestite said to be involved

Subject to updates

A woman is in police custody this afternoon in connection with the murder of a 52-year-old man in August Town, St. Andrew.

The man has been identified as Trevor Grey.

Grey is from the Queen Road area of Maxfied Avenue in lower St. Andrew. He was shot and killed last night in an area in August Town known as Griz Close.

It’s understood that he was attacked by a group of women to include a couple transvestites who pass very well and other women who got involved in the melee in a fit of jealous rage as the deceased was set to be involved in a liaison with one of the women involved.

Head of the Corporate Communications Unit CCU, Superintendent Stephanie Lindsay, this afternoon confirmed the arrest.

The woman is to be questioned by the police.

Member of Parliament for East Rural St Andrew Fayval Williams (left) presents a 'zero murder' shirt to recording artiste and long-time August Town resident Miguel 'Sizzla' Collins.

Mr. Grey’s killing is the third in August Town since the beginning of this year. The peace efforts were pushed by artists such as the antigay Sizzla Kolanji who was sited in a public function marking the achievement earlier this year.

There were no murders in August Town during 2016. Earlier this year this happened as well:

August Town has recorded its first murder of the year.

The murder comes on the heels of last week’s celebrations, when community members and stakeholders rejoiced about a one-year streak without recording a murder in the community.

Police say that a man identified as Damion Lewis, 25, of Love Lane in the community, was shot dead by an unknown assailant at the intersection of Bedward Crescent and July Road, yesterday.

The August Town police say that about 6:25 pm, Lewis was walking along the roadway with a friend when upon reaching the intersection, they were pounced upon by a lone man armed with a gun. The man shot Lewis.
When the police got to the location, Lewis was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead.

December 9 sentencing for 4 year-old gay lover beheading case in St Ann

In a follow up to a case I have been tracking since 2012 of the beheading of a man in St Ann one of the accused is to be sentenced in the St Ann Home Circuit Court on December 9 after he was convicted of the murder, he is Howard Ricketts, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution, DPP says Ricketts helped his co accused Neville ‘Garnet’ Lewis murder Burnett Thomas back in March 2012 at his Brown’s Town home in St Ann the deceased was said to have had an intimate relationship with the accused. On the day of his death they had a dispute reportedly Lewis otherwise called ‘Garnet’ accused the deceased Mr Thomas of infecting him with HIV Ricketts testified that on the morning of the incident he saw Lewis use a machete to chop Mr Thomas on the left side of the neck he said then Lewis told him he had to take part in the act.

here was the TVJ report then:

Rickets said he assisted Lewis to pull Mr Thomas to the bedroom where he then inflicted stab wounds to the chest and intestinal area with a machete as well. Lewis enraged subsequently use the machete to sever the head of Thomas then placed it in a rice bag, police acting on information proceeded to the house where smoke was seen coming from one of the room windows, firemen who also arrived on the scene to extinguish the flames when they discovered the body of a naked headless man lying on his back was seen on the also partially burnt mattress. He was later identified to be Mr Burnett Thomas; the body had several stab wounds with reportedly intestines protruding.

Rickets said in an unsworn statement indicated that he stabbed the deceased approximately three times and that Lewis chopped off the head of the deceased after the incident Ricketts said he was so scared he got dressed and left for work as usual. On March 29, 2012 an eyewitness residing nearby said a foul stench was in the air and went to investigate and found the decomposing head of what appeared to be a male with flies encompassing it in close proximity to their house in Orange Hill District, Brown’s Town St Ann, the head was later identified to be that of the deceased. On April 2, 2012 the accused Howard Ricketts was charged.

When cautioned he said:

“Officer a de boi Garnet cause dis pon mi enuh, a him seh mi fi help and look wah happen”

(Officer is the boy Garnet cause this on me you know, he said I should help him now look what has happened)

On May 26, 2014 Neville ‘Garnet’ Lewis pleaded guilty to murder while his co accused was found guilty late last month.

As word of this case spreads comments continue to conflate crimes of passion beliefs versus reported homophobic driven murders all because of one case, those who supposedly oppose homosexuality of the removal of amendment of the buggery law, it was earlier this year as well we saw a matter in western Jamaica where a teacher was found dead in his house also in a decomposing state and allegations were that a lovers’ quarrel led to the gruesome find as gays are supposedly jealous to the core. One or two murders that may appear to be domestic or intimate partner violence evidence cannot and ought not to be used to justify homophobia indeed condemning the deceased as deserving of their fate; and sometimes done in the name of God bizarrely.

Older more popular murder cases that are kept alive in media given the typed of attention and skewing deliberately or not of the situations and ignorance of gay life altogether; speculation is the driver on the crisis reporting front. Older terms that used to attend was “Sodomatical attack” as an old case in the 80s, September 28 1983 the day of the murder and May 30, 1984 is one such, the judge was scathing in his summation in that case as the man who was murdered as the Chauffeur one Anthony Angus in question was freed on the basis of the usually deceptively used ‘gay panic defense’ by defense council or prosecution and that the accused was ‘entitled to kill in justification’ of the deceased Desmond Schnoor a business also in St Ann as this beheading case, Mr Schnoor’s gun was used to kill him.

Angus testified that he went to the home of Schnoor after being asked to although he may have suspected he was gay and that was the supposed outcome as the business made a move on him, the question then as is now is why did Angus go in the first place if he knew or suspected Schnoor was gay? Sad that in that particular instance what appeared to be a lie to suit the national sentiments on male homosexuality went on to free an accused man; the truth may never have been revealed, there may have been a down-low element in that matter.

Attempted murder of Portmore teacher being investigated

According to media reports and corroborated by a police source a male teacher residing in Portmore is in hospital recovering from an incident by Bayside then Rodney’s arms in a bizarre sequence of events.

Friday last April 1st All Fools Day around 4pm the teacher accompanied a man to Rodney’s Arms for reasons unclear in St Catherine where there was an argument which quickly turned violent; after a tussle the teacher sustained a wound to the lower body and then in an unexpected twist the man used a SUV to hit the teacher to the ground and drove away, the SUV was the teacher’s vehicle and it was found abandoned by the Bayside round-about.

The teacher sustained several cuts, bruises and was dazed as curious onlookers assisted him as the SUV sped away according to preliminary information ascertained at the scene of the incident. Even then members of the public were speculating the motive and the strangeness of the sequence of events; one nearby vendor was most expressive according to my source and stopped short of calling it a gay issue.

The suspected motive is one of ‘crime of passion’ a default conclusion police and others easy resort to when men are involved in unusual appearing matters; as is being circulated in police circles according to my source. The teacher has not been forthcoming with the matter too much as yet as he is securing the services of an attorney before proceeding. Others strongly suspect that it is a date gone horribly wrong as they often do and lead to public spats as evidenced only last weekend outside a popular New Kingston strip club car park nearby. Two alleged lesbians had a knock down dragged out fight complete with a captive audience of mostly men cheering and offering learned commentary related to boxing skills and the ladies supposed masculine mannerisms.

The aforementioned vendor’s comments bordering on homophobia is an indication to me that some Jamaicans still just dismiss genuine homophobic matters as nothing more than crimes of passion and of lovers supposedly quarrelling with each other leading to fights and murder.

elsewhere the said story is reported sensationally as:
Gay principal Penis chop off  by lover in Portmore – SUV was used to run him over

A homosexual rendezvous ended with one man suffering severe injuries to his penis after it was allegedly bitten by his lover in Portmore, St Catherine on Friday night.

The incident happened along the Green Bay Main Road close to the Rodney’s Arms Restaurant.

The victim, who is a primary school principal, was seen bleeding profusely on the roadway and the police were alerted. When the cops arrived they were informed that the victim and another man went to the location and an argument developed between them. The argument turned bloody and the man was savagely bitten on his penis by his aggrieved lover.

But his woes did not end there as his white Mitsubishi Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) was used to run him over.

The vehicle was found abandoned at the Bay Side round-a-bout and is now parked at the Bridgeport Police Station.

He was assisted to the Spanish Town Hospital by the police where he was admitted in serious condition. Doctors are reportedly trying to repair the damage he suffered to his member.

The Greater Portmore Police have confirmed the incident but reported that the victim has not pressed charges or offered any information

Police have confirmed that the area close to Rodney’s Arms is a regular haunt for homosexuals who visit the area to make out.

meanwhile:

the home where the murder occurred

A report on CVM TV only some days ago of a chopping matter involving one Donovan White aka Phil in Montego Bay brought such suspicions front and center, the roommate was interviewed and his every action including the tears or lack thereof in sufficient numbers was used to dismiss his sorrow; while reiterating an old adage that gay rights are not to come as gays are lying about murders when it is us (gays) who are killing each other off in jealousy. Sad that even as details are scarce profiling has led to stigma. As if to suggest jealousy is far deeper in same gender relationships and liaisons versus heterosexual unions.

Bayside Portmore however has factored before in public spats playing out for some reason, maybe the said location of Rodney’s Arms is a popular space for fish, other sea food and entertainment devoid of stigma oddly enough given the myriad of persons who use the space.

In a previous post I had reported on such a matter:

Reports suggests that on Saturday July 10 around 2am in the morning a man who was coming from an event on the strip was on his way home according to him. He reportedly saw a motorvehicle parked on the strip with a female allegedly in the passenger side of the car, the man knowing that in that vicinity the commercial sex is done he approached the “woman” to conduct business.

They negotiated the deal for sexual favours in exchange for an agreed price, he was seen entering the vehicle by eyewitnesses where the apparent agreed sexual favours were performed by the CSW on the man in the form of oral sex. It was after the act was completed and he requested additional services that he discovered she was in fact a “he” as the services he requested require penetrative sex which the cross dresser could not fulfill.

An argument ensued where upon hearing the crossdressers voice it was clear she was a man in drag, by which time stones were hurled into the vehicle damaging it. The drag queen also defended herself by hurling stones as well and chasing him away. The man subsequently tried reporting the matter to the cops but was himself held and maybe charged for malicious destruction of property resulting from the incident.

Accused Gay Killers of Megamart employee still at large

Following the killing of Nicholas Beadle at the hands of alleged homosexuals last month, police say they have yet to make any breakthroughs in bringing the still-at-large perpetrator to justice.

Beadle, 27, was stabbed to death while on his way home from work on February 25 as he navigated through a path in the vicinity of West King’s House road; the homeless gay men who reside in the bushes of the cholera cemetery gave been blamed for the crime.

He died while receiving treatment in the hospital. I am really sorry to hear of this as it was not needed; sadly the outreach required to address homeless MSM/trans individuals are simply not there or there is no interest; announcement after announcements that are well applauded go nowhere, such as this one only last year and more:

HERE meanwhile:

The deceased man’s family is now waiting for an arrest with a heavy heart, and hoping police find his assailants.

“My son died, and now you hear them saying they are stepping up security,” said the victim’s father. “That not helping me again! I already have my loss. This is one of our biggest losses.”

No motive for the attack appears to be that of robbery.

“He was very promising. He said he was planning to work for one year because he wanted the experience,” the deceased’s mother added. “I don’t know how am going to live with it,”

Up to late yesterday, the police assured that they were hot on the trail of those who carried out the heinous crime.
Investigations continue.

Two persons have been named and pictures of them posted online linking them to the murder:

one suspect (top) named is a Mr. Marlando Orlando Ricketts otherwise called F*ckiesha a past student of Calabar High School. Residents complained that men reportedly stayed on the lot to terrorize, rob and prostitute themselves but did not permanently live there. They were said to come and go at intervals because they do have homes. Please help to assist the police in locating these men.

It is not the first time we have seen such awful reports that give MSM a bad name such as this one in December 2014:

THE body of a former policeman was found with stab wounds in New Kingston yesterday morning, police confirmed.

The police told the Jamaica Observer that around 6:00 am the body was found in a vehicle close to the Courtleigh Auditorium on St Lucia Avenue.

Reports are that the man was attacked at a nearby location and drove away in a bid to escape, but later crashed into a building in New Kingston.

One police source said that detectives were investigating reports that a group of homosexual men attacked the man and stabbed him.

Some sections of New Kingston are known by police to be violent late at night, and numerous attempts have been made to reduce criminal activities, some of which, the police maintain, are caused by homosexual men who are usually present in the area.

There has been, in recent months, a drive by police, as well as councillor for the Trafalgar Division of the Kingston & St Andrew Corporation in which New Kingston falls, Kari Douglas, to rid the area of the homosexual men, some of whom use a nearby gully as their home.

Sadly crimes such as this just makes the homeless MSM in particular loose whatever sympathy or support that was coming their way; so many folks who I could call on once are simply refusing to assist even though the newly displaced persons are not at that criminal level. People are simply afraid to touch anything remotely near to homelessness.

Sad to see this all go down.

Teacher found dead in home, crime of passion is suspected by cops

TRELAWNY, Jamaica — Up to late afternoon on March 9 the Trelawny police were working to apprehend the killer or killers of a St James High School teacher whose decomposing body was discovered at his home here yesterday morning.

The deceased has been identified as 53-year-old of Dexter Dacres of New Haven Heights, Granville, Trelawny.

Read from the Observer: Teacher's decomposing body found at Trelawny home

A reliable OBSERVER ONLINE source revealed that among the things removed from the house yesterday morning was a note that read:

"I killed him because he tried to rape me"

Condoms and lubricants were also said to be found in the English language teacher's bedroom.

According to the police, they were summoned to the swanky New Haven Heights, Trelawny neighbourhood, by residents, who detected a stench coming from the home of the teacher yesterday morning.

Upon their arrival, the cops discovered the decomposing body, with multiple stab wounds, wrapped in a sheet.

The body was removed to the Doyley's Funeral Home.

The teacher was said to have been last seen on Saturday in the company of a boy who he said was a relative of his, residents say.

Dacres, who reportedly started working at St James High in January, is said to have got along well with students and members of staff there. He was said to have also paid special interest in slow learners, a senior teacher at the school revealed.

The Falmouth police are probing the incident.

Meanwhile a Vice Principal at St. James High School, who gave her name only as Mrs. Panton, says the staff is shaken by Mr. Dacres’ death.

Commanding Officer for the parish, Superintendent Clive Blair says relatives had reported Mr. Dacres missing

Superintendent Blair says the Police are theorizing that Mr. Dacres was killed in a crime of passion; as per usual the cops always default to that description no sooner than they figure or suspect the matter involves MSM as victims or perpetrators.

This case reminds me of the John Terry matter where a similar note was left on the scene as reported yet the killers and the case can't seem to get anywhere.

Previous posts guide us in that regard:

Hope they solve this one as so many have gone cold after much hype and initial shock of the news.

Gay man BEATS lover at court

There was a strange scene at the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate’s Court on Monday when a man had to seek refuge inside a female bathroom after being attacked by his enraged male lover.

The incident, which occurred about noon while court was in session, started after one of the men heard that the other was taking out a restraining order against him.

People began paying attention after the men began arguing with one another, mercilessly, throwing punches at the other. In between being beaten, the man, believed to be playing the role of the woman, cursed that he was tired of being battered and needed to move on.

“You are just constantly abusing me, you not even working, but continue to beat me up. Look at my back,” the slimly built man said, showing onlookers several cuts and scars on his body before fleeing into the bathroom.

Sat outside

The other male, who is stoutly built, had a word of warning for him. “Yu can’t lef mi until mi ready fi yu lef so stop get mi angry,” he said, as he sat outside the courthouse waiting for his lover to come outside.

Unbeknown to him, the battered lover went through a window at the rear of the bathroom and fled the premises.

“Mi can’t believe mi eye! Mi only si when one of the man grabbed the odder one and sey mi no give yuh permission fi lef di yaad so how come yuh have mi name out yah,” Michael Denver, a bystander, who witnessed the unbelievable incident said.

Other persons expressed shock at what unfolded. “Even di rain stop when the two man dem start the ediat action, a real slackness dis and God a show we sign,” another bystander added.

meanwhile:

This story was the subject of much laughter; obviously not funny to me, sadly people continue to use such incidents to justify dismissal of rights seeking by lobbyists as crimes of passion in all cases; even when the issue is a genuine homophobic matter.

Where words could not express the thoughts, memes certainly did.

Nadene Paige: 'You see why we can't get little rain from above.'

Pansy Poochie-loo Boswell: 'What a mix up...I am deading.'

Stephane Loyal Rose: 'Sas crise, all dem sitten ya.'

Angie Soso Bless: 'No seriously, everything just wata down suh. A dis a gwaan inna JA. Lord Jesus, intervene.'

Shanika Virgo: 'No sah, what this world come to.'

Sadly changing hearts and minds is the bigger issue than even buggery law reform.

Teen robber fabricates 'gay story' but still lands in prison

Makes no sense one goes to court and try to trick magistrates and indeed when stories like this get out there it helps to reinforce homo-negative beliefs and subscription to 'crimes of passion' as justification for antigay ideology already so deeply entrenched nationally and it has an impact if ever so small on advocacy and crisis reporting under same.

Judges these says seem to have a better handle of understanding the issues especially to do with MSM/trans homelessness and welfare matters and the craftiness of some of our brothers and sisters under the guise of survival. In addition to that those (not LGBT) who use the plight of the homeless MSM/transgender persons in that area to rob unsuspecting members of the public of cash or phones etc. then blame it on them hence they also get a bad reputation in the final analysis.

While I understand the urgency of survival stealing and lying about it is not one of the avenues to do so. We all learn the hard way still in one form or another, hope this experience is one such teaching moment.

So a teenager who held up a young man and robbed him of his cellular phone told the court that he took up the phone thinking that it was as a weapon, after the young man made a pass at him and approached him.

Canfield Dias' story, however, could not save him as the magistrate did not believe him and sentenced him to 12 months on a charge of simple larceny.

According to the police report, on April 4, at 11:00 pm the complainant was walking along Hope Road in the vicinity of Kingston YMCA when he was approached by Dias, who held him up and took his DL900 cellular phone from his pocket and ran across the road.

However, on Friday when Dias appeared in court he gave a different account of the incident.

According to him, he got dressed and left his house for Devon House but when he got there it was closed.

"So I was walking on the road and yuh know a whole heap a gays always up dere so, so me di a keep a close eye out and den a saw dis guy me nuh know if him a gay or anything and tru him see me and me look like nerd him start 'pssst' me but me nuh pay him no mind," Dias said

typical caricature of gay men or a cross dresser by Jamaica Observer's cartoonist Clovis

Dias said the man then approached him and started to take something out of his bag, which fell and he took it up as he thought it was a weapon.

"Me neva know say is a phone but when me look and see say is phone me neva give him back," he said.

"I don't believe the gay part. Anything go like that sir?" the magistrate asked the complainant.

"No maam," he quickly replied.

The complainant said he was coming from work when Dias approached him and said: "Yow, whey yuh a come from?" and he told him that he did not need to know where he was coming from.

"He then hold me in the corner and pushed his hand in my pocket, took out my phone and ran across the road," the complainant told the court.

The complainant said he saw two policemen passing by and told them what had happened and they drove down Dias and caught him.

The magistrate then reminded Dias that he had previously appeared before the court for robbery and asked him how many years he planned on spending.

"There was two police officer on the scene if they were here they would tell you that I didn't hold him up," Dias said.

But the magistrate told him that she was long past that stage and was at the sentencing stage.

Dias then asked her to give him a chance but was sentenced to 12 months in prison.

Following his sentence Dias returned to the dock still asking for a chance, saying: "Me neva intend fi rob him", but the magistrate told him that she had already passed the sentence and asked him if he wanted five years instead.

Sadly also we have very little interventions with guidance for our young generally but MSM/trans in particular and when in a moment of insanity they get themselves in serious problems with as in this case a criminal record added to his name.

On Spilling homosexual blood (Observer Letter) & misplaced crimes of passion beliefs

I have to agree with the letter writer on this, there has been an attempt to simply dismiss the push for change by using a few cases such as the Brian Williamson & Peter King matters albeit they were hookups and liaisons gone bad that all other matters are similar; as if genuine homophobic matters do not exist.

Here is the letter from the Observer.

Melicia Wright writes
meleciaw@princeton.edu

Sunday, December 06, 2009

Let me say that I was annoyed that the article did little to dispel the general perception of homosexuals in Jamaica. They were painted as "bizarre", "paranoid", "disordered" and "violent".

While some attempt was made to highlight that this behaviour is not uncommon amongst heterosexual lovers, in pathologizing homosexuality, the article was clearly biased against homosexuals.

In a day when homophobia is still rampant in our society, I think it is dangerous to perpetuate myths and biases about this minority while ignoring the role pervading homophobic attitudes play in precipitating this behaviour. Carolyn Cooper's "Blind Vengeance" published in the Sunday Gleaner fleshes this out quite well.

I encourage you to muse on our national motto: "Out of many, one people". On paper, we profess to embrace the diversity of those that grace our shores. In practice this not how the Sankey is sung. In the future, shall we revise the commentary that enters the public sphere so that it no longer demonizes a group that could cope quite nicely without worse publicity?

ENDS

I hope we learn from this and do not allow ourselves to be misled and conflate gay on gay matters with genuine homophobic cases and each case MUST be taken in its own merit before rushing to judgement on all fronts; including our side of the fence.

Not because a matter has a male murdered and the circumstances are ghastly surrounding the murder it does not mean it is a homophobic case and we miss the mark when we rush only to have credibility so badly needed in crisis communication wither away.

Think on these things.

Spilling homosexual blood - Why do gay lovers kill each other so viciously?

The following rang loudly on the frontpage of the Observer even as I made my way from a party; the newsstand had only three copies left as is expected as such headlines cause a rush by the public; there has been an attempt to simply dismiss the push for change by using a few cases such as the Brian Williamson & Peter King matters albeit they were hookups and liaisons gone bad that all other matters are similar; as if genuine homophobic matters do not exist.

Here is the article:

THE ghastly gouging out of the eyes of self-confessed homosexual Claude Pryce by his enraged lover last week, brought into sharp focus the often spine-chilling, bloody end that awaits, when love goes wrong among gays.

Police investigations of gay deaths are replete with scenes in which the knife - the apparent weapon of choice - is plunged over and over into the body of the victim, leaving a trail of blood that frequently leads to prominent doors in affluent St Andrew.

Former trade ambassador Peter King, described by one member of the homosexual community as an "aggressive male hunter", was arguably the most high-profile Jamaican to have perished in that tragic style.

Police said they found several tapes containing explicit sexual scenes in King's house and the names of prominent Jamaicans apparently caught on tape, have been mentioned.

King, who at one time headed the trade board and led Jamaica's talks in countless international fora, was found lying face-up on his blood-soaked mattress at his St Andrew residence on March 20, 2006. His throat was slashed and his body had numerous stab wounds.

"In the gay community, there are people whose passion finds expression through bizarre sexual experiences and through the infliction of pain," said top psychiatrist Dr Aggrey Irons.

"And so it is not unusual to find acts of cutting off the genitals, gouging out of eyes, personal attacks that have to do with knives and other sharp objects, and so when there is a homosexual to homosexual crime of passion, it is going to seem to be of a bizarre and exaggerated nature," Irons told the Sunday Observer in an interview.

Popular radio talk show host and psychologist, Rev Dr Aaron 'Dear Pastor' Dumas, attested that the knife was the preferred weapon in times of dispute among gays, not only because the gun was harder to get, but death by the knife seemingly allowed for "a greater sense of satisfaction" by the killer.

"They use the knife frequently, because the knife, unlike the gun which is an easier way to kill, is more punishing. When they stab, they don't want the person to survive. Callous and cold-blooded murder seems to depict a lot of these guys," said Dumas, a Baptist pastor who counsels troubled gays.

Homosexual spin doctors in lobby groups such as Kingston-based Jamaica Forum for Lesbians All Sexuals & Gays (J-FLAG) and London-based Outrage! often attempt to deflect blame onto 'homophobic' Jamaicans, a ploy, critics suggest, to pressure the Government into relaxing anti-gay laws.

Homosexual groups claim that there have been over 50 acts of fatal violence against their members in the last five years, although they failed to say how many of those were committed in their own camp.

The common feature - the spilling of blood by the knife - and the gruesome nature of the killings, have been more difficult to explain.
Claude Pryce's alleged lover gouged out his eyes in a fit of rage, police said, because he (Pryce) had "slept out" the night before.

. The body of well-known lecturer, Dr Cliff Lashley, 57, was found in a gully along Lady Musgrave Road in Kingston in February 1993. His head had been severed and his hands and legs chopped off and stuffed in a bag. Peter Rowe, identified in court as Lashley's young lover, was convicted of non-capital murder for the crime.

. Vincent Tulloch, a well-known newspaperman, had over 40 stab wounds when police found his body at his Calabar Mews, St Andrew home in September 1994. The case remains unsolved, but police have not closed the files.

"We are still working on that case, and we are seeking someone who we are told was his lover," a senior investigator told this newspaper last week.

. Psychic Safa Asontuwa, popularly known as Safa, was brutally beaten and stabbed on June 25, 2002 in Seaview Gardens in Kingston's westend. His body was later cremated.

. Founder of the J-Flag, Brian Williamson, was stabbed to death on June 9, 2004 by a man from Jones Town who was later charged with his murder. Eyewitnesses stated that the man visited Williamson at his home regularly, until he slaughtered Williamson, following a lover's quarrel.

Psychiatrists, trying to get to the bottom of that homosexual mystery conclude that gay-on-gay violence often resembled that between heterosexuals.

"Homosexuals are no different than heterosexuals in terms of the distribution of other psychiatric disorders, especially personality disorders," said Dr Irons, who also counsels homosexuals.

"Homosexuality in and of itself is not considered a psychiatric disorder, but within the homosexual community there are certain persons with psychiatric disorders. Unfortunately, many of them have personality disorders attendant on their homosexuality and because homosexuals are so focused, perhaps even more so on the importance of attention and affection, especially from other men, they are renounced nationally and internationally for their jealousy. "When you add to that a paranoid element or an anti-social element, that multiplies the rage and jealousy and you see that expressed in their particular crime of passion," he said.

Dr Irons said that attacks by homosexuals on their own could rise to unthinkable levels of gory conduct.

"Stabbing is not specific to homosexual behaviour, it is a sort of tautological connection," said Irons. "But with each stab would come some kind of exclamation, some expression of hatred or disgust. This is physical, emotional and verbal. So with repeated stabbing, you would find bizarre amputations as well and even relocations.

"I have had to counsel patients who have been battered by their same sex lovers. I don't do it often, but I have had to do so and I treat all patients equally, regardless of whether or not they are homosexuals. If you are having a problem with a relationship or within the context of your life, then the appropriate treatment is offered to you," said Irons.

Dr Dumas argued that homosexuals were still in the minority and tended to be very protective.

"To leave one for the other is to play with one's life," he said. "I have counselled many homosexuals, both male and female. Some have told me that if they are out driving with their partners and one looks at another person, the partner is ready to attack. It is a big problem. Just like how a man will take care of his woman, homosexual lovers are like that too.

"Many of the guys who have been fortunate to have good education will tell you that they are afraid to leave the homosexual community because of the reprisals. Some want to start their own families, but fear that if they do that, they could be in danger," Dr Dumas added.

Roman Catholic deacon and counsellor Peter Espeut, while acknowledging that violent homosexual behaviour was outrageous, argued that homosexual conduct was a reflection of the wider society and no different from heterosexual violence occurring here.

"Not only gay lovers are violent, but heterosexual ones too. They chop up and poison each other like the gays do," he said.

"I don't know if it is true that homosexuals are more violent than heterosexuals. We in Jamaica seem to have a way of turning to violence to resolve certain things and we need to ask ourselves why this is so, because the same thing does not happen in countries like the Cayman Islands, St Vincent and Dominica."

ZEKES TRIAL SHOCKER - Court told of oral sex act with man

Donald 'Zekes' Phipps - FILE

A PROSECUTION WITNESS has disclosed in a statement to the police that Matthews Lane area leader Donald 'Zekes' Phipps, 48, told him that he had been engaged in a sexual act with one of the two men that he is accused of murdering on April 15.

The revelation was made yesterday when the prosecution outlined the allegations in the double murder case against Phipps in the Home Circuit Court.

The burnt bodies of Rodney Leroy Farquharson and Dayton Williams, both of Bayshore Park, east Kingston were found on Rose Lane close to Matthews Lane in April. The bodies had gunshot wounds to the heads. Phipps was arrested in the Matthews Lane community a few weeks following the incident.

When Phipps appeared in court yesterday with his co-accused Garfield Williams, 33, of a Kingston address, Paula Llewellyn, Senior Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions, applied for an adjournment because the analysis of an alleged telephone conversation between Phipps and the witness was not ready.

Llewellyn told the court that the witness, who is described as a close associate of Farquharson, said that on April 15, Farquharson's cellular phone number was dialled shortly after 3 a.m and on the first occasion the call was placed on speaker phone so that several voices could be heard. The telephone was dialled a second time and the main witness who knew Phipps for more than ten years spoke on the telephone. The witness said in his statement that he was closely associated with Phipps and had spoken to him in person and on the telephone on a regular basis.

BIG MAN AND RODNEY

On the second occasion when Farquharson's phone number was dialled, the witness said he recognised the voice which answered to be that of the accused, Phipps, who he knew as Zekes. The witness said he spoke to Zeeks and said "big man I need to come and speak to you early in the morning."

It is alleged that Zekes answered and said, "Boy leave country come a town and get rich and start dissing and refuse to carry out orders." He said Zekes said further "big man you don't have a wife in your bed. Go and hug up your wife, you here enquiring about Rodney."

The witness said Zekes then said "my d... (penis) is in Rodney's mouth. Rodney is sucking my d....(penis)."

The statement further stated that in response the witness told Zekes that he was a mad man. After that, the witness said Zekes said to him, "listen to Rodney for the last time because it is the last time you will hear his voice." The witness said Rodney came on the phone and said in a low voice, "Boss, Boss, Boss" and the phone went dead.

Miss Llewellyn said that Rodney was the main witnesses' right hand man in an organisation in the Harbour View Area. Defence lawyer K. Churchill Neita, Q.C., who is representing Phipps, made a bail application after Phipps trial was set for November 28 in the Home Circuit Court. Mr. Neita said there was nothing to link Phipps with the double murder. He said by any stretch of the imagination, the allegations of vulgarity had nothing to do with the charge.

Phipps' lawyers applied for bail on the ground that Phipps' health had deteriorated while in custody and his children were also suffering because of his incarceration. Miss Llewellyn said the Crown was opposing bail before reading extensively from the statement of the main Crown witness.

I think this case shows how same gender sex for purposes of control as the motivator and not innate homosexual attraction can play in gangster culture and humiliation of those who run afoul of said culture. We wait to see how this plays out.

Bad Man Nuh F*** Batty (Masculine Men Don't F*** Ass) (The Fear of The Feminine in JA ) 16.04.15

A look at the fear of the feminine (Effemophobia) by Jamaican standards & how it drives the homo-negative perceptions/homophobia in Jamaican culture/national psyche.

After catching midway a radio discussion on the subject of Jamaica being labelled as homophobic I did a quick look at the long held belief in Jamaica by anti gay advocates, sections of media and homophobes that several murders of alleged gay victims are in fact 'crimes of passion' or have jealousy as their motives but it is not as simple or generalized as that.

The Hypocrisy of Jamaican Anti Gay Groups & Selective Actions of Societal Ills

The selectivity of the anti gay religious voices on so called societal ills is examined in this podcast as other major issues that require the "church" to have spoken up including sexual abuse by pastors in recent times yet mere silence on those matters is highlighted.

Why are these groups and so called child rights activists creating mass hysteria and have so much strength for HOMOSEXUALITY but are quiet on corruption in government, missing children, crime in the country and so much more but want to stop same gender loving persons from enjoying peace of mind and PRIVACY?

Also is the disturbing tactic of deliberately conflating paedophilia with same gender sex as if to suggest reforming the buggery law will cause an influx of buggered children when we know that is NOT TRUE.

MSM/Trans homeless - From gully to graveyard

When are lives interrupted be allowed a real honest chance to move from interruption to independence and stability? I just cannot tell you friends.

An article appeared in the gleaner today that just sent me into sadness mode again with this ugly business of LGBTQI homelessness. The author of the piece needs an intervention too as he (Ryon Jones) uses terms such as cross dressers and or homeless men which if transgender persons are present they cannot be described or seen as such, sigh another clear display of the lack of impact and reach of so called advocacies and advocates who are more interested in parading as working but really aint having much impact as they ought to or claim.

We are told of houses being put together from time in memorial; the Dwayne’s House project seems dead in the water, the Larry Chang (named after a JFLAG cofounder) seems stuck in the mud and Colour Pink’s so called Rainbow House seems insignificant in relation to the size and scope of the national problem. JFLAG as presented on this blog is obviously not interested in getting their hands dirty really on homelessness save and except for using the populations as cannon fodder and delegating same; as far as I am concerned presenting them as victims of homophobia which is true but where are the programs and the perceived millions donated or granted since President Obama’s visit to address LGBTQ matters?

Dr Shelly Ann Weeks on Homophobia - What are we afraid of?

Former host of Dr Sexy Live on Nationwide radio and Sexologist tackles in a simplistic but to the point style homophobia and asks the poignant question of the age, What really are we as a nation afraid of?

It seems like homosexuality is on everyone's tongue. From articles in the newspapers to countless news stories and commentaries, it seems like everyone is talking about the gays. Since Jamaica identifies as a Christian nation, the obvious thought about homosexuality is that it is wrong but only male homosexuality seems to influence the more passionate responses. It seems we are more open to accepting lesbianism but gay men are greeted with much disapproval.

Dancehall has certainly been very clear where it stands when it comes to this issue with various songs voicing clear condemnation of this lifestyle. Currently, quite a few artistes are facing continuous protests because of their anti-gay lyrics. Even the law makers are involved in the gayness as there have been several calls for the repeal of the buggery law. Recently Parliament announced plans to review the Sexual Offences Act which, I am sure, will no doubt address homosexuality.

Jamaica has been described as a homophobic nation. The question I want to ask is: What are we afraid of? There are usually many reasons why homosexuality is such a pain in the a@. Here are some of the more popular arguments MORE HERE

The Deliberate Misuse of the “Sexual Grooming” Term by Antigay Fanatics to Promote Their Hysteria

Just as I researched on-line in NOT EVEN five minutes and found a plethora of information and FACTS on Sexual Grooming (and thanks to Dr Karen Carpenter for some valuable insight I found out what Sexual Grooming was) so too must these fanatics go and do the same and stop creating panic in the country.

The hysteria continues from the Professor Bain so called protests to protect freedom of speech and bites at the credibility of the LGBT lobby collectively continues via Duppies Dupe UWI articles when the bigger principle of the conflict of interest in regards to the greater imperative of removing/preserving archaic buggery laws in the Caribbean dependent on which side one sits is of greater import when the professor’s court testimony in Belize went against the imperative of CHART/PANCAP goals is the more germane matter of which he was former head now temporarily reinstated via a court ex-parte injunction. JFLAG Excludes Homeless MSM from IDAHOT Symposium on Homelessness

Reminder

In a shocking move JFLAG decided not to invite or include homeless MSM in their IDAHO activity for 2013 thus leaving many in wonderment as to the reason for their existence or if the symposium was for "experts" only while offering mere tokenism to homeless persons in the reported feeding program. LISTEN TO THE AUDIO ENTRY HERE sad that the activity was also named in honour of one of JFLAG's founders who joined the event via Skype only to realize the issue he held so dear in his time was treated with such disrespect and dishonor. Have LGBT NGOs lost their way and are so mainstream they have forgotten their true calling?

Steps to take when confronted by the police & your rights compromised:

a) Ask to see a lawyer or Duty Council

b) Only give name and address and no other information until a lawyer is present to assist

c) Try to be polite even if the scenario is tense

d) Don’t do anything to aggravate the situation

e) Every complaint lodged at a police station should be filed and a receipt produced, this is not a legal requirement but an administrative one for the police to track reports

f) Never sign to a statement other than the one produced by you in the presence of the officer(s)

g) Try to capture a recording of the exchange or incident or call someone so they can hear what occurs, place on speed dial important numbers or text someone as soon as possible

h) File a civil suit if you feel your rights have been violated

i) When making a statement to the police have all or most of the facts and details together for e.g. "a car" vs. "the car" represents two different descriptions

j) Avoid having the police writing the statement on your behalf except incases of injuries, make sure what you want to say is recorded carefully, ask for a copy if it means that you have to return for it

Vacant at Last! ShoemakerGully: Displaced MSM/Trans Persons were is cleared December 2014

CVM TV carried a raid and subsequent temporary blockade exercise of the Shoemaker Gully in the New Kingston district as the authorities respond to the bad eggs in the group of homeless/displaced or idling MSM/Trans persons who loiter there for years.

Question is what will happen to the population now as they struggle for a roof over their heads and food etc. The Superintendent who proposed a shelter idea (that seemingly has been ignored by JFLAG et al) was the one who led the raid/eviction.

New Kingston Cop Proposes Shelter for Shoemaker Gully LGBT Homeless Population

Superintendent Murdock

The same cop who has factored in so many run-ins with the youngsters in the Shoemaker Gully (often described as a sewer by some activists) has delivered on a promise of his powerpoint presentation on a solution to the issue in New Kingston, problem is it is the same folks who abandoned the men (their predecessors) from the powerful cogs of LGBT/HIV that are in earshot of his plan.

This ugly business of LGBTQ homelessness and displacements or self imposed exile by persons has had several solutions put forth, problem is the non state actors in particular do not want to get their hands dirty as the more combative and political issues to do with buggery's decriminalization or repeal have risen to the level of importance more so than this. Let us also remember this is like the umpteenth meeting with the cops, some of the LGBT homeless persons and the advocacy structure.

Remember JFLAG's exclusion of the group from that IDAHO symposium on LGBT homelessess? See HERE, how can we ask the same people who only want to academise and editorialise the issue to also try to address their own when they do not want to get their hands dirty but publish wonderful reports as was done earlier this month, see HERE: (re)Presenting and Redressing LGBT Homelessness in Jamaica: Towards a Multifaceted Approach to Addressing Anti-Gay Related Displacement also LGBT homelessness has always been with us from the records of Gay Freedom Movement(1974) to present but the current issues started from 2009, see: The Quietus ……… The Safe House Project Closes and The Ultimatum on December 30, 2009 as carried on sister blog Gay Jamaica Watch. BUSINESS DOWNTURN FOR THE WEED-WHACKING PROJECT FOR FORMER DISPLACED ST CATHERINE MSM

As promised here is another periodical update on an income generating/diligence building project now in effect for some now seven former homeless and displaced MSM in St Catherine, it originally had twelve persons but some have gotten jobs elsewhere, others have simply walked away and one has relocated to another parish, to date their weed whacking earning business capacity has been struggling as previous posts on the subject has brought to bear.

Although some LGBT persons residing in the parish have been approached by yours truly and others to increase client count for the men costs such as gas and maintenance of the four machines that are rotated between the enrolled men are rising weekly literally while the demand is instead decreasing due to various reasons.

What to Do .....

a. Make a phone call: to a lawyer or relative or anyone

b. Ask to see a lawyer immediately: if you don’t have the money ask for a Duty Council

c. A Duty Council is a lawyer provided by the state

d. Talk to a lawyer before you talk to the police

e. Tell your lawyer if anyone hits you and identify who did so by name and number

f. Give no explanations excuses or stories: you can make your defense later in court based on what you and your lawyer decided

g. Ask the sub officer in charge of the station to grant bail once you are charged with an offence

h. Ask to be taken before a justice of The Peace immediately if the sub officer refuses you bail

i. Demand to be brought before a Resident Magistrate and have your lawyer ask the judge for bail

j. Ask that any property taken from you be listed and sealed in your presence

Cases of Assault:An assault is an apprehension that someone is about to hit you

The following may apply:

1) Call 119 or go to the station or the police arrives depending on the severity of the injuries

2) The report must be about the incident as it happened, once the report is admitted as evidence it becomes the basis for the trial

3) Critical evidence must be gathered as to the injuries received which may include a Doctor’s report of the injuries.

4) The description must be clearly stated; describing injuries directly and identifying them clearly, show the doctor the injuries clearly upon the visit it must be able to stand up under cross examination in court.

5) Misguided evidence threatens the credibility of the witness during a trial; avoid the questioning of the witnesses credibility, the tribunal of fact must be able to rely on the witness’s word in presenting evidence

6) The court is guided by credible evidence on which it will make it’s finding of facts

7) Bolster the credibility of a case by a report from an independent disinterested party.

Notes on Bail & Court Appearance issues

If in doubt speak to your attorney

Bail and its importance -

If one is locked up then the following may apply:
Locked up over a weekend - Arrested pursuant to being charged or detained There must be reasonable suspicion i.e. about to commit a crime, committing a crime or have committed a crime.

There are two standards that must be met:

1). Subjective standard: what the officer(s) believed to have happened

2). Objective standard: proper and diligent collection of evidence that implicates the accused To remove or restrain a citizen’s liberty it cannot be done on mere suspicion and must have the above two standards

 Police officers can offer bail with exceptions for murder, treason and alleged gun offences, under the Justice of the Peace Act a JP can also come to the police station and bail a person, this provision as incorporated into the bail act in the late nineties

 Once a citizen is arrested bail must be considered within twelve hours of entering the station – the agents of the state must give consideration as to whether or not the circumstances of the case requires that bail be given

 The accused can ask that a Justice of the Peace be brought to the station any time of the day. By virtue of taking the office excluding health and age they are obliged to assist in securing bail

"Bail is not a matter for daylight

Locked up and appearing in court

 Bail is offered at the courts office provided it was extended by the court; it is the court that has the jurisdiction over the police with persons in custody is concerned.

 Bail can still be offered if you were arrested and charged without being taken to court a JP can still intervene and assist with the bail process.

Other Points of Interest

 The accused has a right to know of the exact allegation

 The detainee could protect himself, he must be careful not to be exposed to any potential witness

 Avoid being viewed as police may deliberately expose detainees

 Bail is not offered to persons allegedly with gun charges

 Persons who allegedly interfere with minors do not get bail

 If over a long period without charge a writ of habeas corpus however be careful of the police doing last minute charges so as to avoid an error

 Every instance that a matter is brought before the court and bail was refused before the accused can apply for bail as it is set out in the bail act as every court appearance is a chance to ask for bail

 Each case is determined by its own merit – questions to be considered for bail:

a) Is the accused a flight risk?

b) Are there any other charges that the police may place against the accused?

c) Is the accused likely to interfere with any witnesses?

d) What is the strength of the crown’s/prosecution’s case?

 Poor performing judges can be dealt with at the Judicial Review Court level or a letter to the Chief Justice can start the process

Battle Lines Javed Jaghai versus the state & the Jamaica Buggery Law

Originally aired on CVM TV December 8th 2013, apologies for some of the glitches as the source feed was not so hot and it kept dropping from source or via the ISP, NO COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT INTENDED and is solely for educational and not for profit use and review. The issue of the pending legal challenge in the Constitutional Court in Jamaica as filed by Javed Jaghai an outspoken activist who happens also to be openly aetheist.

The opposing sides are covered as well such as
The Jamaica Coalition for a Healthy Society
The Love March
Movement Jamaica

The feature seems destined for persons who are just catching up to the issues and repositioning JFLAG in particular in the public domain as their image has taken a beating in some respects especially on the matter of the homeless MSM front. They need to be careful that an elitist perception is not held after this after some comments above simplistic discourse, the use of public agitation as beneath some folks and the obvious overlooking of the ordinary citizen who are realy the ones who need convincing to effect the mindset change needed and the national psyche's responses to homosexuality in general.
