TJENBÉ RÈD WELCOMES THE COMMUNIST IAN BROSSAT’S STAND IN CONFRONTING THE HOMOPHOBIC SINGER SIZZLA
Press release No.TR10INT11G
Paris (France), Tuesday 7 September 2010
TJENBÉ RÈD, an Afro-Caribbean association for the struggle against all forms of racism, homophobia and AIDS, the French section of the international STOP MURDER MUSIC campaign, applauds Mr Ian BROSSART’s plain and simple stand against murder music, mentioned today in the daily newspaper Le Parisien.
The homophic, Jamaican singer SIZZLA was due to appear on Friday 24 September at L’ÉLYSÉE-MONTMARTRE in the 18th arrondissement of Paris.
In a letter to the GARANCE group (owner of this this concert hall), the chairman of the Communist and Left Party group in Paris council (and member for the 18th arrondissement) expressed his sorrow that GARANCE and L’ÉLYSÉE-MONTMARTRE were contributing to the «trivialisation of violence against homosexuals by scheduling singers who call explicitly for their murder». He asked them to «go back» on their «decision».
In doing this, Ian BROSSART is joining numerous other elected representatives, who have already taken up a position against murder music and against the homophobic persecutions in Jamaica, notably in 2007 Pierre COHEN, member of the Socialist Party (at that time, French MP and mayor of Ramonville-Sainte-Agne, South of France), or Fabienne KELLER, member of the UMP (French Conservative Party), at that time, French MP and mayor of Strasbourg (East of France).
