Listening to our hopes instead of our fears
Michelle Obama challenged the attendees and I guess Americans in general at the Democratic Party National Convention in Denver, Colorado, USA on Monday night to listen to their hopes and instead of their fears as they head to the polls come November. She wanted posterity to be able to say "how this time we listened to our hopes, instead of our fears. How this time, we decided to stop doubting and to start dreaming."I thought that was a wonderful statement and it certainly ignited my thoughts and imagination.Hope is an important ingredient in our lives and certainly in many religions hope is an important part of their teachings and the overall outworking of the purpose of human life. Hope in God, we were constantly reminded as we were socialized in the Jewish Christian tradition. Today, regardless of how we definite ourselves, as men and women of faith we continue to hope in a future that is brighter and better. We come together for worship and fellowship to strengthen each other and to demonstrate in very tangible ways the radiance of our hope in the unfailing love of God, but also in that which is possible when we support each other in our quest to live the best and most fulfilling life. We hope together, and further we work together for the dawning of that new day when justice will roll down like a river and equity, equality and righteousness like a mighty stream.
Our coming together as partners on a journey of faith is a poignant signal that we refuse to give up the belief that good will overcome evil in the final analysis. So let us continue to do the good and work for the good. We cannot give up the hope that this fair isle, Jamaica land we love will also see the dawning of this new day of justice, equality, righteousness, hope and love. Let us listen to this our hopes instead of our fears and work together for our hopes of a better and brighter tomorrow.
Best wishes,
Rev
