Worshippers at Sunday’s Mercy Cry Prayer Meeting in Sam Sharpe Square. Organized by the St. James Ministers’ Fraternal, where things kicked off with a street march and culminated with the meeting, which saw various Christians from across western Jamaica p
As the storm rages over efforts through the Supreme Court to rule on the question of the Constitutionality of the Buggery Law, some sections of the Church in Jamaica have come out with guns blazing against the possibility of the Buggery Law being repealed.
The noise from sections of the Church has reached thermo-nuclear proportions, with the hyperbole and hyperventilation of some of the ‘divine messengers’ becoming deafening, as if the roaring and shouting is an index of the certainty and conviction with which they speak.
Firstly, religious arguments regardless of how robust they are, cannot settle the question of Law. And to attempt to try the case outside the halls of justice is simply an exercise in futility and can be considered sub judice.
My concern is not about the ability of the Supreme Court to rule faithfully on the question of Buggery, as there exists unequivocally, the presumption of competence with respect to that Court; but rather the moral authority with which the Church and some of its “divine messengers” have emerged at the forefront of the fight to repeal the buggery law.
ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH
Noticeably absent from the caucus of divine complainants was the Roman Catholic Church, who perhaps are the most conscience sensitive. Presently, the Roman Catholic Church is facing a number of lawsuits, for reported cases of molestation and abuse of young boys by Priests and Bishops throughout the various Dioceses around the World. And, might as well.
They indeed will avoid the drama of further exposure that is about to unfold, as the homosexual lobby begins to name those ‘divine messengers’ who are known to them to be homosexuals, and are regular feature at some of their hilarious party gatherings and privately elsewhere.
Those who remained unmoved by the histrionics surrounding this latest campaign, may be treated to the best soap opera ever, and the more discerning will reaffirm that Almighty God do move in mysterious ways!
ST. JAMES MINISTERS’ FRATERNAL
Within the city of Montego Bay, the St. James Ministers Fraternal, consisting of some of the denominations operating in this parish, has come to the fore to lead the charge against the repeal of the buggery law.
The first statement I read in the local newspaper is, that while that body was campaigning against the repeal of the Buggery Law, they were not against homosexuals, “for all have sinned and are in need of redemption”.
It imports the question: Who is committing the Buggery? Herein lies the dilemma; for there are inherent dangers when in an argument, one leap frog from a psychological reality to a logical reality, without constructing a timely corridor from which to journey or transition.
BUGGERY LAW/HYPOCRISY
But here is what I thought should also be a part of the consideration of the ‘Divine Messengers’ of St James: How did we get to this sorry pass where even with the existence of the Buggery Law, homosexuality still persists to the extent where for some, it has become a compelling national concern?
And, since the Church has proven itself with an abundance of evidence to be one of the sources of buggery, and other homosexual and molestation acts, are the people the churchmen {women noticeably absent from the platform} are seeking to convince about their concern really listening? And if they the people do listen, what are they thinking?
I am a churchman and not a homosexual and will never be.
But I do have family members who are, and when I found out initially, I was in a quiet way very furious towards them, until I realized I was wasting my time trying to change them so I accepted them.

ENDS
I decided to share this as I have not heard him speak much on homosexuality at all until this article originally done in late 2013.
