First of all the Child Care & Protection Act places an obligation on Jamaican citizens to report suspicious activities by persons who may be abusing children sexually or otherwise; if the state finds out persons were in knowledge of such and never made a report then there are consequences to pay legally.
This gay blog cannot be accused of stifling freedom of speech in no way of non homosexuals and has attempted to be as balanced as possible when carrying varying points of view even from staunchly opposing voices, I will continue to do so despite calls from not surprisingly within the gay “community” to stop being so accommodating but if we are to progress WE MUST be fair and be demonstrably tolerant if we expect same. I will not have my reputation and that of my blogs mired in the growing cemented perceptions of being a bully.

The belief of a homo-paedophile construct is a national one and has also been repeatedly used by anti gay religious groups such as the Jamaica Coalition for a Healthy society, JCHS and Lawyers’ Christian Fellowship, LCF alongside children’s advocate Betty Ann Blaine; there perception has seeped into the national psyche also and is used as justification for the proverbial battyman fi dead rant in song and in mob violence evidenced over some four decades. The recent case of a civil servant in the Youth Ministry having such a cloud over his head has only sought to add fuel to the fire as the greater perception of protectionism of powerful government officials also is pegged to the public’s cynicism and overall rejection of any gay rights call or that of tolerance.
I am still of the opinion that the Stop Murder Music Campaign of which I was aprt of in its formative years (fully active 2000 – 2007 ) in relation to Queen Ifrica, the first female artist directly targeted since its inception was overreach by those who chose to act by shutting her down in Canada and now New York even as I have been critical of the aforementioned song of hers as it seeks to encourage invisibility and us remaining in the closet as outcasts which is worlds apart from the inciteful lyrics by her male counterparts namely Sizzla, Capleton, Buju Banton, Elephant Man, Beenieman and previously Vybz Kartel (who signed the symbolic Reggae Compassionate Act, RCA) whose lyrics directly call for the execution of homosexuals usually by the gun or by mob murder. Given Ifrica’s exposure to homeless MSM and Transgender youth she could have been a prime ally if left to time and dialogue especially despite her homo-paedophile perceptions but after her secondment to the UNICEF project where she had gained notoriety from her song “Daddy Don’t Touch Me There” someone from the smart gay lobby decided to discourage UNICEF from having her as the voice of the project so she was yanked from it. Sometimes I wonder if these folks in the gay lobby of ours have sense and think that there are long term consequences for certain actions; clearly Ifrica’s heterosexist hit out at the Independence Day 2013 grand gala both a follow up to her hero Tony Rebel similar act the year before at the same event plus her feeling aggrieved from being removed from the UNICEF spokespersonship.
Then we wonder why the perception is now being cemented that the lobby collectively is nothing more than a bunch of bullies.
Ifrica recently spoke on the issue of her latest troubles with sections of the gay lobby on CVM TV’s On Stage with host Winford Williams and among other things she stated that she has not issue with the gay lobby but some elements in its midst who are trouble makers as it were, she mentioned the Canadian cancellation of her visa and hinted to Maurice Tomlinson’s role in the action as she described the individuals as members of the diaspora who were upset with the government here in Jamaica on gay rights. On the matter of paedophiles among the gay community Queen Ifrica said “MI waan fi use the forum to say to the paedophiles that are hiding among the gay community to come out and to ask the gay community to shub out de paedophiles dem, who are among them and hiding and are abusing our boys right here in Jamaica Winford .....................” she went to claim that these men who are abusing boys are happy that the debate on homosexuality and hate music is heated as they are left out of the picture so they continue their abuse, “............. the gay community is the best one to do that,” she concluded.
Although she has been seen with the company of the above mentioned anti gay groups at their recent pro-buggery law DVD launch this latest interview overall tells me she can still be engaged as there are some issues that need clearing up chief among them is the homo-paedophile construct and the lobby’s collective motives, it is clear that not all the LGBTQI populations agrees with the way forward, it is left to be seen of the more docile JFLAG led by Dane Lewis and others will re-engage her and to seeing that the alleged instigators of the UNICEF yanked spokesmanship of her reside in the J as a board member and may not want to tolerate her as he has always hated the “Keep It To Yuself” song; how can on one hand we demanding tolerance yet in practice it look so completely different in as far as private workings?
Meanwhile the Professor Bain CHART conflict of interest matter though slowed is still out there as talkshows remain focused in certain respects on it, the headlines in the Observer on Sunday and now today on Homo Thugs in Crime and a gang rape of a male jogger in Queenhill raises some concerns which bother me as some persons in the initial reaction feel more justified in beating gays as it were and that gay men are only here to try to enrol, sodomise or change everyone else to homosexuality. Frightening as the news is and I am indeed concerned about the victim here but to conflate abuse with same gender sex is not the way to go, there must a separation of the issues here.

Peace and tolerance indeed but let the conversation continue, at least this time around the shouting that's going on with the Bain matter is not happening here it seems.
