ALL IMPORTANT SHOW AT CABANA CLUB IN HOLLYWOOD HAS CANCELLED
this show was to have been one of the launch pads for mainstream entry.
Here's the actual email to a member Buju's team from the venue operators:
subject: Cancellation Of Buju Banton Show Next Thursday @ Cabana Club (10/15/2009)
Sent: Tuesday, October 06, 2009 5:30 PM
"Sunset Entertainment Group is canceling your upcoming performance on October 15, 2009 at the Cabana Club with your artist Buju Banton. We are very upset that you have put us in this position with the gay & lesbian community.
We will not allow a promoter to ruin our reputation within the Hollywood community after we have worked 20 years to uphold a first class operation. We do not and will not support any of this artists views of hatred towards the gay & lesbian community."

Well they being Buju's team must be feeling like doodoo now will all these rejections I wouldn't bother to continue pushing this tour and to think he and his management are alone in this. There is a deafening silence from the dancehall fraternity as if they have sent him to the wolves. The only major call so far comes from a music luminary who asked for a truce between the dancehall community and the gay community and emotional support from Beenieman on Miami leg of the tour.

While fresh facebook groups emerge called Cancel Buju Banton's Los Angeles Show! it's unbelievable, where was all this opposition before though or was it the John Terry shocker in last month that caused this mobilisation to begin cemented? it's been a while I have seen the gay community in the US really act in a cohesive fashion crossing state and colour lines on this one.
LA Gay and Lesbian Centre after just a few hours launching: lagaycenter.org/StopHateLyrics managed to get the mentioned above cancellations happening. Meanwhile open letter to Banton’s manager, in which Center CEO Lorri L. Jean invites Banton to visit the Center. She offers to support an end to the boycott against him if he apologizes and vows never to perform “Boom, Bye Bye” again. There has been no reply.

I would hang my head in shame at all this, it look bad yow. Well people power. Buju is learning the hard way that as public figures your words have power they can make or break you.

Apart from anything else, it must be very distracting for Buju, artist that he is, to have these constant disruptions and reschedulings. However, as I understand, he has had ample opportunity to reach out to the gay community but has reneged on, or wriggled out of, every agreement that was offered him.
