the latest listing of shows and outcomes many of which have been cancelled while others are being rescheduled as what seems as a cat and mouse game happens since Buju's team manoeuvres there way to venues, most of them smaller, but who are willing to host him. Most cancellations seem to be out of fear of loss of business from the gay community post the tour more so than the political correctness and just what is right. The song Boom Bye Bye as we all know promotes hateful acts against gays specifically excluding lesbians.
The other disturbing thing about this affair is the deafening silence from our only official advocacy group, JFLAG, Jamaica Forum for Lesbians Allsexuals & Gays during this whole important intervention by the various groups in the US after all the Stop Murder Music campaign was the brainchild of Outrage UK, BlackInches UK, JFLAG and others. What is happening? why are we in general as an LGBTQ community so comfortable as if others are fighting our battles so we just relax, it doesn't look good and leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
The SMM was more active in the UK and Europe more so than the US and this new surge of activism against this kind of music should be welcomed and embraced by Jamaicans as a chance to get involved in the discussion of facing homophobia in it's various forms. Why aren't there any galvanizing activities on the ground to drum up support or at least informing the membership of what is really happening seeing that the local mainstream press is not doing so.
